Design Within Reach
Design Within Reach (DWR) was founded in 1999 by Rob Forbes, after he tried to furnish his apartment with clean, simple classics he’d come to appreciate while living in London. Rob discovered that the work of designers like Saarinen, Eames, and Bertoia were out of reach for anyone who didn’t have a direct connection and lacked patience to wait months for delivery.

Rob thought there had to be a better way, so in 1999 he bought 20 containers of product, mailed out a catalog and waited for the phone to ring. The rest, as they say, is history. Design Within Reach provides customers with access to products that are brilliantly conceived, simply executed, and consistent with the enduring principles of modernism.

Today, DWR is the best place to find modern home furnishings – from iconic mid-century works to innovative new designs. Many of the items at Design Within Reach are contract quality, and are used in restaurants, hotels and schools around the world.
Authenticity is key; however elitism is not. Visit any DWR studio and you’ll never see a do not touch sign. Visitors are invited to linger, bring the dog and kids. No need to fret if a DWR is not in your city, because every item they carry can be found and purchased online, plus additional finishes and styles not shown in the DWR catalogs or studios.
