It was just a few years ago that very large suburban houses called McMansions were all the rage. Then came the global economic downturn… While not for everyone, The Crib is an effective and affordable (prices start at $89,000) option involving the current trend of elegant, but simpler, smaller-footprint homes.
The Crib’s inspiration came from corn cribs that were historically used by American farmers to store harvested corn and protect it from the elements and pests.
The Crib’s pedigree originates with the award-winning Shack at Hinkle Farm by Broadhurst Architects, Inc.
The Crib is manufactured off-site with sustainable and recycled materials, then pre-packaged as a kit for quick and easy transport to a site for assembly.
While simple in appearance, The Crib utilizes a sophisticated design elements that incorporate galvanized steel that is bent to create a superior structural system as compared to traditional wood timber construction.
To enhance aesthetics, wood beams are blended into the structure – insulated panels, floor, and roof systems, comprise the rest of the system.
Currently there are three models of The Crib, and there is flexibility to customize each structure.
